Bill recently took Mark Lowry with him to Wheeler Mission, in downtown Indianapolis, where the two of them met up with former Indianapolis Colts kicker, Hunter Smith, to be a part of Wheeler’s lunchtime service team for the homeless.
During their visit, they toured the facilities, filled trays, served tables, refilled drinks and engaged guests in conversations. The reason for this visit is their belief in the 100-year work that Wheeler Mission has been doing to serve the homeless in Indianapolis. This day was only the beginning of cooperative effort Bill has formed with Wheeler Mission to help bring awareness, support and much-needed funding to help this fine organization assist more of Central Indiana’s homeless population.
Wheeler Mission’s assistance does not just stop with food and shelter. Wheeler also provides programs for addiction recovery, discipleship, job preparedness and other important services to help equip individuals for independence and a fulfilling future. It is a powerful thing to hear the stories of those who came to Wheeler hungry and without hope, who now serve others at the shelter or have gone on to lead lives filled with joy and purpose.
This 6-month effort will culminate on November 30th – the Saturday evening after Thanksgiving – in a Gaither Homecoming Christmas Spectacular at Banker’s Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. This evening of music and celebration will feature an incredible selection of Christmas music featuring a mass choir representing churches and universities across Central Indiana, as well as world-class performances by the Gaither Vocal Band and some of gospel music’s finest voices.
“We want to send a message to the hungry and hopeless in Indianapolis,” Bill stated in meeting with Wheeler Mission, “...we want them to know people care.”
In that spirit, we invite you to mark your calendar and join the Gaither Vocal Band on November 30th at Banker’s Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis! Tickets for the Gaither Homecoming Christmas Spectacular will go on presale to Gaither.com members on Tuesday, June 4th, then on sale to the public Monday, June 17. This event will be a wonderful opportunity to bring in the Christmas season and bring together our city to rally for our less fortunate neighbors.
