In setting their sights on a new album — “Live the Journey,” which has a yet-to-be-determined release date — the members of Building 429 are writing letters to their younger selves.

In so doing, the Grammy-nominated, Dove-winning, Christian chart-topping band, which comes to East Tennessee on Friday as part of the annual Winter Jam Tour, hopes to continue spreading its twin messages of hope and solace, singer Jason Roy told The Daily Times recently.

“This record is written to say all the things I wish I would have heard when I was younger, and the first thing is that it’s OK if you’re not OK,” Roy said. “Everybody wants an easier way, but beauty grows in the strangest places, man. In the most odd, unexpected places is where beauty grows, so don’t be afraid to stand and face it. I’d also say that it’s not when we get to where we’re going that counts; it’s how we live the journey. That’s what I would say to my son today — live the moment you’ve been given, live with a heart that’s wide open and dance like nobody’s watching.”
